Poker is a card game where players wager money (the pot) on the outcome of a hand. There are several different types of poker, but all share the same basic rules. In addition to the luck factor, poker is a game of skill and psychology. Unlike most gambling games, poker is usually played in a group where players bet in turn. This allows for a much higher level of interaction between players and increases the chances of bluffing.<\/p>\n
Poker can be played by two to 14 people, although the ideal number is 6 to 8. A poker hand consists of five cards. The highest poker hand wins the pot. The other four cards are used to break ties. The best poker hands are the Royal flush, Straight flush, Full house, and One pair.<\/p>\n
In most poker games the player antes something (amount varies but is typically a nickel) to be dealt cards. Once the dealer deals the cards the first betting round begins. Each player must bet enough to make his or her contribution to the pot equal to or greater than the previous player. When betting is complete the dealer puts three additional cards on the table that anyone can use. This is known as the flop.<\/p>\n
Say you have pocket kings and the flop comes A-8-5. While it is still a good hand the ace on the flop makes you vulnerable to a flush or straight. When this happens you must either call or raise to stay in the hand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
