Poker is a card game where players place bets with chips representing money to win the pot. Once a betting interval is complete, players reveal their hands and the highest hand wins the pot of money. Before the betting interval starts, each player must ante (amount varies by game) and then be dealt cards. The first player to act places a bet, either calling or raising. Betting continues in order around the table, until each player has either called all bets or folded his or her cards. This is known as the showdown.
